Hanzo: “Is Papá not there?”
Rosa: “Unfortunately not, mijo. He’s been out on another business trip for the past couple days so contact with him is down to a minimum as per usual. You know how involved he gets with his job whenever something like this happens.”
Hanzo: “Yeah…though it would’ve been nice to hear from him as well.”
The masked talent shook his head as he switched hands for the phone to his ear.
Rosa; “Well, at least you were able to speak with one of us. I take it all is well in your now lodgings?”
Hanzo: “In the UK? Yeah, though things are dour given recent events…well, everyone’s dour except the Irish really but that’s besides the point. Just know that I’m holding up well and I have my debut coming up on the weekend.”
Rosa: “I’ll make sure Osamu is made aware so he can at least try to catch the show whether it be at his hotel or at home if he’s back by then. I know you’ll do great out there, mijo.”
Hanzo: “Gracias, mamá.”
Rosa: “In any case, I need to start heading to bed. Awfully late over here at this hour, so we’ll talk again soon. Hopefully before you step into the ring again.”
Hanzo: “I’ll make sure to give a call before the appointed hour. Pass along my love to dad.”
Rosa: “I will. Good night, Hanzo. I love you.”
An audible kiss echoes through the phone before the call disconnects, leaving The Eagle to himself as he sets the phone down on the coffee table before him, hands clasping together as he leans forward, elbows touching his knees.
Hanzo: “There really is a lot to consider going into this match, and I’ve had quite a bit of time in recent days to truly reflect just how high stakes this endeavor is, and the weight that is carried with it. I know I’ve talked about it previously, but I don’t think I really deigned to indulge just how much I really want to take that briefcase home after Royal Crown…and how much it would mean to not just myself, but to my family.”
He sighs, looking up at the camera with a hardened gaze.
Hanzo: “I began my journey in this business roughly seven years ago, practically still relatively fresh faced to the real world and with very little insight on myself as to what I wanted to pursue as a career. Then, I met Daisuke, and from then on I began the long walk of traversing this seemingly endless expanse known as pro wrestling. In all the years I’ve been active, I’ve had nothing to show for. A few appearances here and there in Japan but outside of it, nary a single accolade to decorate my wall. Thinking about it…what wouldn’t be a better prize than to win the Briefcase?”
A faint chuckle escapes him.
Hanzo: “It’s maddening to think at times that someone like myself who compared to most is the smaller of the two in most matches is looking to claim a prize among giants not just by appearance, but also by status.”
A small scoff echoes from Hanzo.
Hanzo: “But I’m not letting that subdue me because of the fear it can instill in a person, no. If anything, it is the fuel to my fire to serve as my updraft to take me to the heights I’ve been longing to see for over half a decade. Feats I knew were possible but only through months and months of diligent work, and yet an opportunity has presented itself. A crowning moment for The Eagle to soar above all…a dream waiting to become reality.”
A long sigh falls, followed by a slight shake of the head.
Hanzo: “And it shall come true…this declaration I swear to myself, friends and family alike. Failure…that is something I can ill afford this time around in my endeavors but should I fall…no…no time for the negativity. One way or another, the impact I make will be heard around the company and that for someone still relatively considered a rookie, that I aim at succeeding and excelling the expectations set before me. You will know…you will know that the kid from Mexico is going to go far in this business and by the end of it, I will be known one way or another.”
He pushes up from his seat on the sofa, camera following after him.
Hanzo: “So I now say to the people of IPW and the fans: Hanzo Aguilar has already landed in IPW but where there was only a glance that one particular night, you will be treated to something worth remembering. A luchador experience that will live on to be unforgettable and known for months to come, the start of my own legacy. That Briefcase will be in my hands by the end of the night and come whatever may in the time that follows, I’ll be perched atop the very peak of Infinite Pro with a dream fully realized. I’ll get there, and no one is going to clip my wings to stop me from damn well trying. Para mis amigos y familia!”
He pats his chest a few times with the palm of his hand as the beginning of “Psycho” by Konnan begins to play in the background, camera gradually fading to black in the process before the recording ends.
