The beep of a voicemail echoes on the black screen, an older gruff voice coming through the speaker, and one a bit familiar to some viewers.
Daisuke: “Hanzo, it’s Daisuke. It’s probably rather late across the pond when I’m making this call but, as a teacher, I’m very proud for the large strides you’ve been able to take in such a short amount of time. It’s almost akin to Kaz’s ascension as Fenrir before he became…Daigo.”
He sighs.
Daisuke: “In any case, go and spread your wings as wide as you can. Ride the wind as far as you can. Oh, and if you see Leon appear at the event, make sure to tell him that I’ve a small score to settle with him one day. Best of luck, Hanzo.”
The end tone beeps as the automated voice takes over, though it quickly fades as Hanzo’s voice comes through, the mask being the only piece of him that manifests on the screen.
Hanzo: “So…I’ve already flown myself close to the top of the mountain that I planned on ascending and in the process, I knocked Stefan McCain back down a few rungs in the process to get this coveted opportunity. One that I fought hard for, actions speaking louder than words, and now I have another chance, a prized opportunity but with so many unpredictable factors pitted against me in this endeavor. Tommy Hate, MYOJIN, and the ever lurking Leon Chant…”
Hanzo lets out a long, gradual exhale.
Hanzo: “I never would’ve anticipated to climb up this quickly, and I’ve said it several times before but it doesn’t make it any less surprising to me. My first big breakthrough, and now the possibility to cap off one hell of a start here is within my grasp. However, two snipers stand at the ready to gun me down in this last leg of my flight to the top. Tommy Hate, a purveyor of violence and Murderplex specialist, but with a thought process so focused on simply destroying people and rendering them barely able to crawl once he’s done, I find him unworthy of trying to lay claim to such a wondrous prize. There’s always the classic saying of blood, sweat, and tears, but a man like Tommy only cares blood, blood, and more blood. A literal madman that ought to be put in an asylum, and he has a chance to win it? No. Unthinkable. Forbidden.”
A low growl rumbles from his throat.
Hanzo: “I won’t let some monster hellbent on carnage and blood snatch away that I’ve been striving for. I had to stomp out McCain and thought he was bad enough but to be against such a spiteful bastard…I’ll make him hate me. Hate the greenhorn who finished ahead in the Rumble do so once again but this time with my head held higher than it ever has been with that championship securely around my waist by the end of the night. The young gun that no one thought much of when I first appeared at Adrenaline VII, showing how nervous I was to even set foot in front of thousands of people once again…but look where I am now: Confident, hungry, driven. Confident I will make you spite me, hungry to get that gold, and driven to show that I don’t need to draw blood or decimate my foes to get what I want. That want is what MYOJIN has.”
Another long exhale.
Hanzo: “IPW’s Shining Star who dethroned Ana Somnia before I arrived and where Hank failed, someone has to pick up the slack and turn one’s failure into another’s success. My success…to begin charting my legacy and leave my name and mark in this company’s record books. A man who went from being just a being with a name, to the top dog of Infinite Pro and the potential to become that next Shining Star is limitless. Infinite. For years, and years, I struggled, bled, agonized, and raged at how it seemed like I was going nowhere despite my success on the underground scene in Japan but that seemingly endless battle will see its end come to fruition on Sunday when I dethrone you, MYOJIN. The star that burnt out within two blinks of the eye and being replaced with a rising star who can finally say ‘I am the best. I am at the top, and here I stand.’ That. Will. Be. Me. Not because I wish for it, but because it will become a reality, one that I’ve been dreaming of and that will come to life.”
A brief, heavy chuckle escapes Hanzo.
Hanzo: “One step away…one final step from achieving the dream I’ve been chasing for nearly a decade and I can ill afford my nerves to be getting the better of me because I’m having to deal with an insane asylum inmate and Namjoon’s Walmart cousin. No matter how hard the wind blows, how much it cuts my skin, tries to break me, I have every intention of taking that final step to reach the top of that gilded mountain and make my name, my legacy, evermore known to the world. The crowd on their feet, ‘Vamos Aguilar, Vamos Aguilar!'...I’m so close to it. Just that last step…and you two are my last few challenges to conquer.”
Hanzo draws in a deep breath, letting it slowly exhale in turn to compose himself.
Hanzo: “Hate me, love me, or respect me…no one can deny the progress I’ve made by leaps and bounds to get to this spot to begin with and now I’m in a fight for my life to complete the puzzle and put the final piece into place: the Infinite Pro World Championship. The last step to a historical rise, and you can’t deny history in the making…even more so when you witness it before you. Learn to accept the failure that’s coming for you two…for it will be The Eagle that soars high very, very soon.”
