“Tara! Allen! Hurry!” Jennie’s voice shrills.
She is absolutely beaming with excitement whilst running up the cobblestone walkway. Tara was several steps behind her, and holding her youngest son’s (Eddie) hand whilst approaching the home with one hand, and her five month old daughter, Lilith, in her other arm. Allen walks side-by-side with Tara, as if a gesture to help in case she needs help with Eddie or Lilith. Jennie suddenly springs back and grabs Eddie’s hand to pull him front and center, and places her hands on his shoulders while fixing his hair to make him more presentable.
“Stand up straight!” Jennie directs him.
Eddie fixes his posture, and holds in a breath.
“Are you excited?” Jennie asks, leering over Eddie’s shoulder.
He merely nods with extra exaggeration for dramatic flair.
“Tara! TARA! O-M-G!” Jennie gasps, and looks over her shoulder, “Have they seen Lilith yet?! Please tell me they’ve seen Lilith… They had to have seen Lilith!”
Tara walks up beside Jennie, “Yes, of course. You were there! We took them to dinner! The Outback… Dad kept asking the waiter why they keep sending Foster’s out to the world, and says that that should be a declaration of war with how awful it is.”
“RIGHT! Right. Foster’s really is bad, innit?” Jennie says, and smacks her lips together several times almost as a nervous reaction.
“I mean, I don’t drink anymore, but when I did, it wasn’t that,” Allen answers.
“I CAN’T WAIT TO GET AN ACTUAL BEER! Okay! And knock!” She nudges Eddie, and Eddie raises his hand to tap his knuckles against the door, but just before he can make contact, the door swings open and the doorframe is an older gentleman wearing shorts and a polo.
“Hey, kiddo!” he shouts.
“DA!” Jennie shouts.
“Grandpa!” Eddie shouts in unison.
“C’mere, you!” the older man says, getting into a playful fighting stance in the process; he taunts Eddie several times until Eddie takes a swing, and then he plays that it hurts a lot more than it actually did, “Ahh! He got me!” He places an arm around Eddie’s shoulder in a guiding fashion, chuckling as he does, “Arianna! Guess who’s here!” Eddie charges into the house and runs into the arm of his grandmother, Arianna, and then Jennie throws her arms around her father and hugs him tight. “Great to see you!” He says while hugging her tight.
“Missed you!” Jennie answers.
“Missed you, too, honey bunches!” He says and then straightens his posture, “And who’s this?”
“This is–” Jennie begins to say, but is cut off by Allen.
“Allen Chaney, sir!” Allen extends his hand as is the proper response for a first time meeting of the parents.
“Allen, huh?” He answers, and accepts the handshake, “What happened to Ricky?”
“Ricky is no mo’!” Jennie shouts.
“Oh. I didn’t like Ricky,” The father chuckles, “Pleased to meet you, son!” he continues and claps Allen on the shoulder. Jennie and Allen both walk into the house so Jennie can introduce Allen to the rest of the family.
Tara and Lilith are the last two to approach the house, and Tara gives him a partial hug; he hugs her back, but then brushes the hair back of Lilith, “And how’s my little angel been doing?”
“Already crawling, and crawling all over the place…” Tara groans, and rolls her eyes.
Tara enters the home with Lilith still in her arms, and the father closes the door behind her. They venture further into the house, and the father continues talking as they walk forward, “The two of you didn’t stop by the last time you were in town. Everything alright?” he asks.
“Yeah, yeah. We both just had a lot on our plate… and I–” Tara stutters, “I didn’t want any distractions at our match.”
“Distractions? Us?!” The father sounds appalled, but also understanding.
“You’ve never seen us– or me– compete in the ring, in all the years that I’ve been doing this! I just– I didn’t want you to come to this one and have me off my game… But Dad, I want you there this time. I want you and mom there.” Tara bites down on her bottom lip.
He stays silent for a moment until his lips curl into a sincere smile, “Then we’re not going to miss it. Hey, so Chris is in the living room and has been waiting for you–”
“TARA! Look who’s here!” Jennie squeals.
Sitting on the couch and doing his best to remain interested in what Eddie is showing him on his phone, Chris’s eyes dart back and forth several times, “Hey, big sis!” Chris says, but then turns his attention back to Eddie, “Man, those are so cool! But maybe you should go show Grandpa everything you caught?”
“Yeah, kiddo, let’s give these ah-dults a chance to unwind! You can help me and Grandma in the kitchen…”
“Fiiine!” Eddie stomps his feet on the way to the kitchen, and continues rambling now on with his grandpa.
Chris and Jennie sit on the couch, Allen sits in one recliner, and Tara is on her way for the second recliner, but Chris leans forward, “Eh, eh! You’ve had her for five months. It’s my turn,” Chris says. Tara walks over and carefully hands Lilith over to Uncle Chris, who holds her up; she appears confused at first, looking for her mother, but then lets out a giggle when Jennie starts making silly faces at her. Tara finally is able to take her seat in the other recliner.
The silence lingers for several seconds, and during it, Jennie pulls her phone from her pocket; she raises her hand up to give the peace sign toward it…and her actions don’t go unnoticed.
“What are you doing?” Chris asks.
“What? I mean–” Jennie licks her lips, and shrugs, “–I’m happy to see all of you, but we also came here for another reason. A match…” Jennie explains.
There is another round of silence amongst all of them, but there is no disagreement from any of them, but rather surprise that Jennie seemed to be the responsible one in mentioning the upcoming competition. Jennie taps a few buttons on her phone, and then breaks the silence by seemingly talking to herself, but rather talking to her audience, “Hello, howdy, hey, and bonjourno to the lot of you, and smooches to all of you fine people watching from your homes! I am coming to you LIVE from– HOME! GLASGOW! And with me is–” Jennie moves the phone slightly to put Allen in the center, “This handsome devil!” Allen gives a mere nod of his head, and Jennie turns the phone back toward herself, “You’ll have to understand that he’s a lil bit nervous. First time meeting the folks and all. ANYWAYS! We also have–” Jennie shifts the camera now to put Chris Docherty front and center, “Big brother, Doc! A lot of you should remember him from his days in the ring, and the tough bas–” Jennie clears her throat, remembering that Lilith is still in the room with them, “–the tough son of a gun could still be in the ring! Maybe one day…ONE DAY…you’ll see the Docherty trio hit the ring in a huge six-person tag! But for now, the focus is going to be on just the sisters…” Jennie turns the phone further to unveil Tara to the audience. “Anything you want to say to the audience, madam?!”
Tara rolls her eyes but maintains her strong posture. She leans forward and waves gently at the camera; the traditional smirk is on her face, and she cocks her head to the side, “The last time that The Fenix Sisters stepped into the IPW ring, we walked out with our arms raised; we walked out as the winners of our contest, and we walked out with a little bit more: we walked out as the favorites to win this entire tournament! A chance to solidify– to cement our legacy as a tag team even further… A chance to step into the ring with two–” Tara is at an absolute loss for words. She contemplates several times over, but just shakes her head, “–I have seen a lot in my twenty-three-year career, but that Mickey and Minnie is something else entirely.”
Jennie suddenly flips the camera back to herself, “HEY! If you really wanted to creep us out with some Disney related stuff, all you really have to do is post a video of IT’S A SMALL WORLD! I mean…talk about creepy…those people just singing…and singing… and singing! Like, Allen, if you ever take me on that ride, we’re breaking up! That’s the ride you avoid. Don’t you ever take Lilith on that ride, Tara! Don’t you…ever!” Jennie points at Tara, but Tara’s reaction isn’t seen by the audience as Jennie still has the camera flipped toward herself.
Tara twirls her finger a couple of times to give Jennie the hint, and after the third time, she takes the hint, and the camera lands back on Tara, “But I have been in the ring with a number of people who have tried to use a creepy mask to put themselves out there. Hell, Jennie and I have fought in Disney World after hours, and we have more than enough bad memories to keep us occupied! But do you want to know what both of us have done? We have continued fighting. Nothing is going to change this time around… We are going to dominate. We are going to win this entire thing! And then…we may just have to go after The Dead End Express...” Tara pauses momentarily, and licks her lips, “But the two of you are not alone. We have ourselves another team in the mix, and one person in particular that I am quite familiar with–” she waves again at the camera, and flashes a brief smile, “Hey, Price. How have you been? Have you missed me? Let me go ahead and say, first and foremost, it is quite nice to see a familiar face… A face that I never thought I would see again, and it is nice to be able to rewind some of this time and dial it back to– what was it? 2004? 2005? Almost twenty years, Price. But we will have to get all the pleasantries out of the way at another time, because this time around: you are just in our way. Do you understand? Then I could go on about the person at your side, but I am going to say also… I do not care. The story is not about you. The story is–”
Jennie flips the camera again, “The story is us, lovelies! The story is how the two sisters are going to prevail, for a second time, in front of their hometown audience! How the two sisters are going to prevail, for the first time, ever, in front of their parents! How they are going to prevail… How they are going to rise to every challenger, every occasion, every tag team tournament, every tag team title, anywhere, everywhere, anytime, and we are going to be the ones to continue turning EACH and EVERY head! Y’see, Tara is a favorite wherever she goes. Whatever ring she goes into, people know that she’s going to bring it! Now, we have these two people trying to have a go at us on Twitter and thinking that they’re going to intimidate us…but…” Jennie shrugs, “It’s not gonna work. Y’see, I can put creepy stuff on, too, and have done my fair share of making people scaroused– yeah, I know the effect I have on people– so all I’m going to do is rip those ears off of the two of you, and shove them so far up your– well, you get the point… This story is ours, okay? And let me just go ahead and spoil it for you: we win. You lose. Ciao!”
End.
