Oh. Violent. Night.
We open up on the face of the former X*Crown Champion El Rey. The bruises have gone. There’s some scaring from burns on his chin and a scar near his hairline from being busted open. He stares directly in the camera breathing softly before continuing.
El Rey: I was bloodied. I was bruised. I was thrown from the top of the structure. I was burned alive when I landed on a flaming table. Many people expected me take some time off. To run and lick my wounds.
The young man shakes his head no.
El Rey: What you people don’t understand is what happened to me at Oh Violent Night, that’s just a Tuesday when you’re training with Zoran Sainovic. I’ll be honest, that man terrifies me, and I can’t wait until he finds a new pet project, but he’s made me something… more.
El Rey takes a deep breath on the last word closing his eyes as he does so. Once they reopen he locks back in with the camera.
El Rey: In my short time as a professional wrestler I’ve already evolved more than some wrestlers do over their entire career. When I started I was a young kid with the game in his blood and a load of talent I didn’t know how to properly use. I lost, a lot. But I took it all in and learned from it. Sure, I didn’t take it all in easy and that’s all people will remember. They’ll remember I broke some things along the way and screamed until my voice was gone. What I’ll remember, though, is the lessons I learned and how I grew and became something more. Because by year two I wasn’t that sniveling brat living off of his daddies name anymore, no. I was X*Crown Champion demanding respect everywhere I went, and I got it.
He smirks holding focus on the camera obviously enjoying his memories as champ.
El Rey: You’d think reaching that pinnacle and becoming the top champion, having successful defenses under my belt against names that ring fear into the hearts of other competitors, that I couldn’t evolve further. That’s the tip top right? No. I’m still only 20-years-old and there’s still so much left to accomplish in my career. And that’s why I’m here in Infinite. I know, you’re saying to yourself that’s a lie. I’m here because I’m running away from my family, and you’re right.
El Rey solemnly nods his head yes as he pauses.
El Rey: I did come here to get away from my family, but I’m not a person who does anything with only one goal in mind. I came here to continue my legacy. Yeah, I’ve already checked the X*Crown off my list, but a legacy isn’t built on one belt. No. It’s built by beating the best of the best and you just have to look at the roster to see this is where the best is. You’ve got old time legends like Spike and PRICE. Guys that mixed it up with my dad and still can take on anyone. More recent legends like Cross Recoba who made his name in AWF when the name AWF meant something. And new stars looking to shine are here too like the Jamrockers and the champ Ana Somnia. But before I can get to matches with them I have to wade through the dregs of this company. I’ve already stomped through Aren and his minion and now in my way is another minion. To not one’s surprise it’s a minion of Donzig for my first match after reluctantly teaming with Donzig. I’m sure he demanded this as penance for not listening to him, but it won’t be penance for me. No, it’ll be for you Gavin Drake.
El Rey scoffs and shakes his head
El Rey: You, Gavin, are just more of the same for me. I’m sure you and maybe your fearless leader Donzig think you’re special, but you’re not. You’re just another big guy who looks menacing. I’ve beaten guys just like you time-and-time again. I got here off of talent. I don’t have the size to just flex my muscles and make all the scouts oooh and awww. No, I have to convince them in that ring. I have to go out there and give everything I have and show my tools, and I have a lot of them. I have the speed advantage, I have the intelligence advantage, I have the Zoran in my corner advantage, and I have the talent advantage. So your size and strength, they mean next to nothing to me Gavin. You’re not some big bad roadblock on my way to my goals, no, you’re just another crack in the pavement that I’d only trip over if I wasn’t paying attention. The bad news for you, Gavin, is I am paying attention and I see you right in front of me and I won’t let you cause me to stumble.
El Rey stops as he hears a creek from off camera. We pan out to find Zoran entering the room looking a little worse for wear. El Rey eyes him and says.
El Rey: You good?
Zoran shoots daggers through his young client, with his eyes this time, and nods.
El Rey: So what are we going to do?
Zoran: What we do every night.
El Rey: Try and take over the world?
Zoran thinks about it and replies.
Zoran: Good answer, but no. I’m going to torture, train you, until it makes me feel better.
El Rey: Shit. I liked my answer better.
The young star turns from his old protege and back to the camera. He reaches out and covers the lens with his hand and we fade.
